Please join us in congratulating Osceola County and their bold tuition-free college program, Osceola Prosper, on being named "Floridian of the Year" by Florida Trend. This program has reshaped the future for students and families across the region.
What began in 2022 as a conversation over dinner between Osceola County Commissioner Brandon Arrington and Valencia College President Kathleen Plinske has grown into a transformative initiative. Initially using COVID-19 relief funds, the county now covers tuition and fees for every Osceola County high school graduate attending Valencia College or Osceola Technical College.
Key Stats:
- From near the bottom to the top: Osceola County’s college-going rate has seen a dramatic turnaround - rising from 61st out of Florida’s 67 counties in 2010 to ranking among the top three counties statewide for high school graduates continuing on to college or post-secondary training following the launch of Osceola Prosper.
-
Nearly 3,000 degrees and certificates earned: Since the program launched, Osceola Prosper students have earned more than 2,800 associate degrees, trade certificates, and technical credentials.
-
Thousands of students served: The Osceola Prosper initiative has enrolled about 10,000 students from the Classes of 2022 - 2024, with opportunities continuing for the Class of 2025.
Thanks again to the Osceola County Commission and Valencia College President Dr. Kathleen Plinske for their vision and leadership! By working together, we are supporting the future of our workforce in Central Florida!
